Meet Cindy Rodriguez, Founder of Elimu Girls (a division of Elimu-USA), a 501(c)(3) established in 2013 to equip girls with the skills to transform the outcomes of their lives.
Elimu Girls is a 2-year vocational sewing program that provides a safe space for vulnerable girls in rural Kenya to live, learn, grow, and give back to their community. They are based in the coastal region of Eastern Kenya and their girls are from small rural villages in Kilifi County.
The Elimu Girls mission: Empowers Her to become community leaders and entrepreneurs ensuring financial freedom, self-worth, and equality.
Cindy's passion for human rights, gender equality, and access to education led her to start this grassroots international organization. Cindy is a second-generation Latina woman living in Southern California. Her family stories chronicle the lives of Mexican immigrants who worked at the Simons Brickyard in Los Angeles, CA. She feels a sense of connection with the poverty-stricken teens in rural Kenya, as they were both given a second chance at life through education and empowerment.
In today's episode, Cindy shares her story of how she pivoted from being an education administrator and teacher in California and into becoming the Founder of Elimu Girls. Cindy has an MA in Curriculum & Instruction and an MA in Education Leadership.
